About
The Little BIG Kindness Corner began with a simple question (or two):
How can kindness and community be made more easily accessible? What helps people treat one another with kindness, compassion, and respect?
For most of my life, I have been drawn to kindness-focused projects. As an elementary school teacher, I saw how naturally children connected with opportunities to help others, build relationships, and brighten someone's day. Even the smallest acts of kindness often had a bigger impact than anyone expected. A thank you card for the custodian. A "kindness rock" near the office door. A note of appreciation for the after-care aide. The benefit to the giver and the receiver was always clearly evident and had lasting effects.
A few months ago, I started thinking about ways to make kindness easier to practice in everyday life.
What if people could stop by and find a simple kindness challenge?
What if they could create a small token of encouragement for someone else?
What if there were opportunities for neighbors and strangers alike to contribute
something positive to their community?
Those simple ideas began to grow.
A container for the ideas became a corner.
A corner became a gathering place.
A gathering place became an invitation.
Today, the Little BIG Kindness Corner is an evolving community project centered around kindness, creativity, connection, and community. Visitors may find kindness challenges, opportunities to create and share encouragement, make-and-take activities, community projects, volunteer opportunities, and ways to connect with others and the community at large.
One of the most meaningful parts of this journey has been watching the project become bigger than a single idea. Community members have shared materials, donations, creativity, encouragement, skills, and time. What began as one person's project is gradually becoming something built by many hands and hearts.
The Little BIG Kindness Corner is still growing, and I don't know exactly what it will become. I think that's part of its magic.
What I do know is that small acts of kindness matter. BIG.
They create connections.
They strengthen communities.
They remind us that every person matters.
This corner is my attempt to create a tiny piece of the world I wish existed more often—and an invitation for others to help build it too.
